What AI does to trust — and what it doesn’t

Innovation and trust — what AI adds and what makes people human

A leadership team had just integrated AI into their daily work. The mood was split in two.

One half was enthusiastic: faster reports, better drafts. The other half was unsettled: „If AI can do what I do every day — what do you need me for?“

The operational level: what can AI do better? Summarise texts, analyse data — yes. And it is getting better.

The human level: what can AI not do? It can simulate closeness, but it cannot carry a mutual relationship — it takes no risk and holds no responsibility. It does not sense that someone in a meeting is only present with their body. And in a difficult moment it does not ask the one right question.

AI changes processes — and it changes trust too. Only trust does not arise from efficiency, but from how leadership handles transparency and responsibility.

Your worth as a leader does not lie in what you know or produce. It lies in what you make possible between people.

The organisations that integrate AI best are the ones that invest at the same time in what machines cannot do: real conversations, real relationships, real leadership.

My question: what is the one thing you do as a leader that no AI will ever take over — and are you investing enough time in it?

Lead yourself, and everything else follows.
